10th - 14th December

We have had a very busy week!  On Monday we had our school trip to Masterton.  We caught the train over and then walked to the outdoor pool and had a swim.  We then went over the road to have lunch in the park, and for a play.  It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day and we all had a fantastic time.  Thank you to all the parents who came along on the trip.

On Thursday we were very lucky because Lucy's mum, Sarah, who has been working with us during reading throughout the year, came in and brought us morning tea.  We had delicious brownie, marshmallows  snowballs, popcorn and fairy bread.  A big thank you to Sarah!

Today (Friday) was a bit of a messy day as we had singing practice all morning, and swimming after morning tea.  So we split Discovery Time into two, and still managed time to make these cute little reindeer decorations!

3rd December - 7 December 2012

Wow it has been a busy week!  We have been doing lots of practice for the school concert next Monday and we were on assembly item this week so we have been practicing for that.

We have started up swimming groups, and have been working on our freestyle, flutter-board, floating and water confidence skills.

On Thursday, Alex from the Mobile Library Bus came and read to us in the Weta room.  He is leaving the bus next year so we made a big card from the class to give to him.

We did well on our assembly item today.  Here is a video of it below.

26th November - 30th November.

Our tadpoles have grown legs this week.  They are very small but if you look closely you can see tiny back legs on all of them.

On Thursday we had a fun water activity day.  We did this with the Tuatara, Kiwi and Tui classes. We did four different activities.  The first activity we were put in teams and had to melt an ice cube only using  our hands.  The first team to melt it won.  Then we moved onto skipping holding a cup of water.  We had to try keep as much water in our cup as possible.   The third activity was in teams passing a wet sponge over and under each other until we reached a certain point.  The last activity was in teams again and filling a bucket up with a cup.  The first team to fill the bucket won.  We finished with playing hot potato with water balloons.  It was a beautiful sunny day and we all enjoyed going outside and having fun.

On Friday during Discovery Time, Melissa (Jonty's mum) came in and did some baking with us.  We made pikelets and loved eating them at morning tea time.

23rd November 2012

This morning Lace's Dad came to school and showed us his drag racing bikes.  He talked a bit about them and then Lace and Aaron gave us a demonstration on how to start the bikes.  They were really loud, but we all enjoyed watching and listening to them.

Check out the photos and video below.

12th November - 16th November 2012

We have a had a very busy week!

On Tuesday a company called Capacity came and visited us to talk about ways to conserve water.  They had different shower heads, taps and even half a toilet bowl to show us which ones are more efficient   Miss S was please with some of the good questions we asked.

On Wednesday we were all excited at  morning tea as we were lucky enough to see a solar eclipse.  Kade from the Paua room brought to school some special glasses which let us look up at the sun.   We saw the moon covering the sun and the sun looked like an orange crescent.

This morning during Discovery Time we made two water wheels.  Here is a video of us testing it out.

4th - 9th November 2012

We have been looking at the water cycle this week for our 'Turning on the Tap' topic.  We are getting really good at describing the process.  We made a terrarium to help show the process.

In Discovery Time we did some experiments with water. We filled a glass with water and put a piece of cardboard over the top.  When we turned the glass upside down the cardboard stayed on the glass.  This is because of the water pressure.  We also put a screwed up piece of paper in a cup then turned the cup upside down and put it in a pot of water.  When we did it correctly the piece of paper stayed dry.

On Thursday Alex from the mobile library bus came and read us a story in the library, we all love listening to him read to us.

We read a book in class called Look at me. It was about a boy who showed us what he liked to do at school.  This gave us the idea to make our own book!  Here it is below.

15th - 18th October 2012

First week back after the two week break!  There have been some changes to the Pukeko class.  Blake, Billie, Indiana, Maddy, Hannah-Rose and Liam have moved into the Tuatara class, we will miss them, but know they will enjoy being in there.  And we say a welcome to Hunter who started on the Wednesday last term.
This term our topic is called 'Turning on the Tap' and is about the importance of conserving water.  This week we looked at all the different uses for water and did some classifying of photo cards.
We have a short week this week as Friday is Teachers Only Day - a nice way to ease into the term!
