Monday 9th - Friday 13th December 2013

On Tuesday we enjoyed our well earned marble jar party! We chose to have a free swim in the pool with just our class and then we had an ice-block on the field.  After our ice-block we played in the playground for ten minutes.  We all had a great time!

We have been doing a few Christmasy things this week, including reading Christmas stories. We read one book about an crocodile with Christmas jandles. In the story he looses one and has to wear odd jandles.  A few girls in the class decided to do the same thing!!!

During Discovery Time today we worked on our hand print angels and made Christmas trees out of paper and fabric.

Monday 2nd - Friday 6th December 2013

We finished off fractions this week.  We have been learning how to cut things into halves and quarters. We have also been comparing halves and quarters e.g. 2 quarters equals 1 half.

In writing we have been writing letters to Santa.  We have done a really good job.  They have all been published and are ready to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve!

We have been swimming this week, here are a few photos.  On Tuesday next week we are having a marble jar party.  We have chosen to have a fun swim with just our class.

Today during Discovery Time we decorated the Christmas tree and made a few decorations.

We were on assembly item today.  We showed our piggy banks.  Here are a few photos and a link to our YouTube page.

Monday 25th - Friday 29th November 2013

This week in Maths we have been looking at fractions.  We revised over what a half looks like and did some more work on quarters.  We will be doing a bit more on fractions next week.

With Nadine's creative mind we have now stuck on ears, eyes and tails.  Some Pukeko's got creative themselves and added bows or extras to their piggy banks.  We will show these for our item next week and then they will be ready to take home.

Monday 18th November - Friday 22nd November 2013

Wow, what a busy week we have had!

Of course on Monday the whole school took a trip into Wellington to go to the zoo.  We had a great day patting some animals and learning a little bit about life cycles at the zoo school, and then going round and looking at all the animals.  At 1:00pm the whole school met for lunch.

On Tuesday we wrote some recounts about our trip to the zoo.  Everyone did such a good job that we decided to publish them.  They are now up in the classroom so come in and have a read!

Thanks to the help of Nadine (Jaspers mum) we have put the legs and the snout onto our paper mâché piggy banks. Today during discovery, we put on the first coat of paint.  They are beginning to look really good.

Andrews dog had 13 puppies and before Discovery Time today, we were lucky enough to have a play with them.  Thanks Raewyn for bringing them in, they were extremely cute!

11th November - 15th November 2013

We have started the milk in schools programme this week.  We get a 250ml carton after morning tea each day. So far this is going down well and everyone has been enjoying their milk!

We have been working on our calendars this week.  They can be ordered to be made into calendars, diaries or cards. Below is a photo of our finished artwork.

Today during Discovery Time we made fruit kebabs and cars out of milk bottle lids.

28th October - 1st November 2013

It's been a short week this week, but a busy one!

For our topic we have been learning the life-cycle of the Pukeko.  We all did a great job at sequencing each stage and labelling the pictures.

We have been looking at money this week for maths. We have done lots of focusing on making $5 or $4 from $1 and $2 coins and adding different values together.

We have put the forth layer onto our paper mâché piggy banks now, so the final layer will go on next week and then we can start the nose and legs.

Here are a few photos from Discovery Time this morning.
