25th March - 27th March 2013

Only a three day week this week as we have a teacher only day on Thursday and then Good Friday.

We managed to squeeze in two letters this week, we learnt w and j.  Maths was Easter themed, where we had to do an activity of putting Easter Eggs in the basket and then count them.

Easter Bunny visited our classroom on Wednesday and we had fun finding Easter Eggs he had hidden around the classroom.

On Wednesday afternoon we had our school Fun Run.  Some of us enjoyed getting into our Whanau Group spirit and had our face painted in our house colour.   We had to run around the school for as many laps as we could manage.  Everyone did at least 3 laps and one person even did 8!  Go Pukeko's!  Well done to everyone for giving it a go!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe Easter.

18th - 22nd March 2013

This week we welcome Zoe to our class.  She turned 5 on Sunday and has been in the Pukeko Class one week now.

The letters we have been learning this week are l, f and b.  So far this year we have learnt letters s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, h, r, m, d, g, o and u.

For maths this week we have been learning about measurement (mainly length).  We have been learning about long and short and have even measured objects with blocks and rods.  Here we are measuring each other with rods.

Today was Fancy Feet Friday, where we decorated our shoes, scooter, bikes and helmets.  This is to promote walking and biking to school.

We had an Easter theme during Discovery Time today as there will be no school next Friday.  We decorated Easter Egg shaped biscuits, made paper card Easter Eggs and did a range of Easter colour ins and worksheets.

We were on Assembly item today, below is the presentation we did.

11th - 15th March 2013

This week we welcome Daniel to our class.  He started with us on Wednesday.

Our focus in reading this week has been pointing to the text one to one as we read.  We have been working really hard at doing this and are doing a good job.

In Discovery Time today we made chocolate chip biscuits, and masks.

4th - 8th March 2013

What a busy week we have had, with lots of visitors!
It is volunteer week and we had a couple of volunteers come to speak to us.  Carolyn form HUHA (Helping you help animals) came on Monday to speak to us about what they do.  Brenton from the Salvation Army came on Wednesday and talked about how the Salvation Army was founded and the different ways they help people.

On Tuesday people from the Good Time Music Company came and did a concert for us at lunch time.  They had four drums which measured  how fast you could hit them in a certain amount of time.  All the students had fun trying to get the most amount of beats!  Even some of the teachers had a go!

On Wednesday afternoon we had Phil from Rumutaka Rugby come and teach us some skills.  We learnt how to run with the ball while holding it properly and how to throw and catch a rugby ball.

During Discovery Time we made scones and created autumn trees out of paper and paint.
