Monday 24th June - Friday 27th June 2014.

On Thursday the Tuatara, Pukeko and Tui rooms went to the Dowse Museum.  We all excitedly caught  the bus down to Lower Hutt, arriving at 9:45am.  We had some morning tea then talked and showed what feelings would match to different colours.  After this we broke into two groups to do our own art.  We all made joy boxes which are little matchbox stick boxes that we decorated with a long folded piece of paper inside.  On this piece of paper we drew things that made us happy on each fold.  So whenever we are feeling down we can go get our joy boxes and they can cheer us up!
We then headed downstairs where our guide told us all about a man who made dolls.  We had the opportunity to look at some of his dolls.
This was the end of our trip and we caught the bus back to school just in time for lunch.  It was a really good trip and we all enjoyed it.

The second half of this term we have been doing folk dancing in P.E.  Here we are doing some of the dances outside.  So far we have learnt Carnavalito, Seven Jumps, The Jiffy Mixer and the Bird Dance.

Monday 16 June - Friday 20 June 2014.

We have been learning about time this week. We learnt what 'o ' clock'  and 'half past' look like and how to read them on an analogue and digital clock. We then made clocks of our own to practise making the time on.

During library time on Tuesday we read a book called Library Mouse. It's about about a mouse who lives in the library and writes books for the children to read. The children ask to meet him so he puts a mirror in a box and the children see themselves.  This encourages them to write their own stories.
We had our own mouse visit our library who has encouraged us to write our books.

During Discovery Time we made monsters out of cardboard and string.

We were on class item in assembly today.  We shared our pictures on what makes us scream from last week.

For our topic this week we have been looking a a picture by Edvard Munch called the scream.  We talked about what the painting made us feel and why the man in the picture could be screaming.  We have also done our own scream pictures which we will share at assembly next week.

During Discovery Time today we made peanut butter biscuits.  We also had the iPads to practice Mathletics, crayons and dye, games and the garage and cars.

Wednesday 4th June - Friday 6th June 2014

A short week this week due to Queens Birthday on Monday and a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday.
On Wednesday we had a local artist called Sue Wild come and talk to us about what she does.  She was very talented and did some water colour paintings for us and showed us some work with pastels. We then went back to our classrooms and got creative and did our own pastel drawings.

During Discovery Time we made little Pukekos with Nadine.
